Products for Elderly Safety Around Your Home

Elderly safety is going to be a major concern among family, friends, and professional caretakers. And this is going to be a bigger issue especially when the aging patient is also suffering dementia or other debilitating illnesses.

As aging progresses, combined with such illnesses, the elderly will have a harder time doing even the simplest task by themselves. If they have issues losing their balance, they are at high risk of falling if they try to get up from the bed or a seat. Dementia (Alzheimer’s disease) will cause them to lose their memory and reasoning skills, and this will render them unable to make sense of things around them and make them become lost and disoriented.
How will they get help if they are alone in a bedroom or another room? Who is going to assist them to the restroom when they need to relieve themselves?

Thankfully, we now have solutions to aid elderly patients and make their everyday lives easier and reduce the burden on their caregivers. They are designed to reduce the risk of falling accidents as well as improve their quality of life.

Most of the products featured below are made by Smart Caregiver, the leading name and pioneer of falling and wandering prevention solutions for over two decades. The following products will enhance safety at home for elderly patients and more flexibility for anyone providing care:

1. Bath Tub Safety Rail

This Bath Tub Safety Rail has an appealing, ergonomic design that provides a non-slip grip that is safe and comfortable. It prevents the chance of slipping or falling. The rail’s width can be adjusted from 2.75” to 6.5” depending on the size of the bathtub. It doesn’t require special tools to install.

2. Easy Release Safety Buckle Seat Belt

The  Easy Release Safety Buckle Seat Belt helps keeps seniors safe without restricting their movements. This device is a great alternative to chair sensor pads.

The system is complete when the seat belt is used with other Smart Caregiver alarms including the TL-2016R3, TL-2004E, TL-2100V, TL-2100E, TL-2100G, or TL-2100CP (all sold separately)

3. Big Button Phone Telephone with Emergency Keys (White)

The phone has many features which include: large dial keys that are easy for seniors to read, an SOS key for emergencies, a speakerphone reaching up to 16.5-feet, incoming call indicator, and four large photo-speed dial key. It also has a volume control and many other features. It can also support multiple languages, compatible with most brands of hearing aids, and it only requires batteries (which are not included).

4. Safety Bed Alarm Monitor

This alarm monitor is compatible with other Smart Caregiver bed or chair pressure sensor pads that are corded, floor mats and non-restraining belts (sold separately). It also features a tamper-proof alarm to prevent patient interference, low-battery light, as well as a lost pad light which informs caregivers if the pad is not working or disconnected. It requires three AAA batteries (not included).

When the patient tries to get up, the pad senses the release of pressure that will cause the alarm to sound, alerting the caregiver that they need to come to their aid.

5. Call Button for Monitor

To complete the alarm system, the Call Button for Monitor is best when used with the Wireless Central Monitoring Alarm. Choose from the 433-CMU-40, 433-CMU, or the 433-CMU-60. It is also usable with the Cordless Alarm 433-EC. Each is sold separately.

Once the button is pushed, the alert is sent out to the caregiver, who will come to their assistance. You can place it on the table by the bedside or it can be worn around the neck with a lanyard.

6. Safety Bed Rail and Padded Pouch

The 30”  Safety Bed Rail and Padded Pouch has a couple of uses: it prevents falls and provides support to patients as they get in or out of bed. When not in use, the rail folds down, which is a great feature when making the bed.

7. Deluxe Folding Traveler Walker

The Deluxe Folding Traveler Walker is durable but lightweight for the senior patients to use. It has two wheels on the front which makes for smooth and comfortable walking, which allows a patient to move around more independently.

The easy-release trigger makes it easy to close the walker without using their hands. It is also ideal for patients with limited mobility and dexterity.

8. Spoon and Fork Holder

Each package has two utensil holders that provide a non-slip, stress-free grip that is secure when eating, which in turn really helps the patients to regain a sense of independence and confidence that they can feed themselves.

I called with questions and was greeted with very friendly and very helpful staff. The motion detector we bought is probably the best caregiving device we’ve bought so far.

I had a little trouble finding the adapter I needed for and alarm and motion detector, but your customer service rep was a big help, thank you.
